LARCH BOARDS AND THEIR USE?
Larch countertops are in great demand for table tops, kitchen counters, bathroom sinks, shelves. They are also used to make larch fences, terraces and floors, piers, decks, bridges, pergolas, gazebos, trusses, staircases, stair treads, interior and garden furniture.
In interiors, oak boards are most often used as a beautiful and reliable floor covering. Solid oak flooring is very popular. Larch boards can be laid close together and ideally straight. On customer’s request, we can supply planed, sanded, milled edges to a radius. Oak planks have a very nice appearance, coloring and a beautiful distinctive pattern.
We can also produce larch boards with natural edge as unplastered . Larch boards can be used and built directly into wooden constructions even after drying, planing, brushing etc.
Larch boards have a very nice appearance, colouring and a beautiful distinctive pattern. Larch planks processed in this way are therefore sought after for the production of wooden terraces, wood panelling, wooden floors, larch fences, pergolas, gazebos and garden furniture. Plank larch lumber cut from center-sawn, width-graded lumber. We manufacture to order planks of the same or different widths from 80mm to 300mm according to the requirements and needs of each structure. The largest possible sawn plank width is 500mm if the diameter of the larch log is sufficient.
Larch boards are also very suitable for exteriors where they have a very long life even without a finish. The resin in larch is so abundant that the wood is naturally impregnated and water and weather resistant.
WHAT KIND OF LARCH BOARDS CAN WE MAKE FOR YOU?
Freshly cut (tarred) larch boards with unspecified moisture content
The disadvantage of using untreated lumber can be the high water content and the subsequent volume changes and deformation when it dries to equilibrium moisture content. The higher water content may also be problematic in terms of increased risk of attack by wood-boring insects, moulds and fungi, but this is to a small extent in oak, as larch is resistant to such attack.
When buying raw timber, it is a good idea to choose the right quality for the application. In general, centre sawn timber, ideally radial with no pith content, will be the strongest and most stable.
On the other hand, incorporating elements made from uncured timber with pulp content can cause undesirable effects in the form of twisting, drying cracks, etc.
This product of basic sawmill processing is not losing its popularity in traditional carpentry constructions where a relatively wide range of cross-sectional dimensions are used – exterior structures, larch planks in the garden, raised beds, etc.

Technically dried, planed larch boards
The profiles are made from technically dried larch lumber with guaranteed moisture content (exterior usually 15% ±3%, interior 10% ±2%). The centre lumber, ideally radial without pith content, will be the strongest and most stable and care is taken to cut through the pith (centre of the log) during the primary cutting of the log. This ensures greater dimensional stability.
Four-sided planing or sanding and bevelled edges are a matter of course with self-dried boards.
For the production of larch boards, logs are used in the order of the first and second pieces from the bottom of the tree with fewer cut branches (knots) and minimal curvature.

ARE LARCH BOARDS SUITABLE FOR BUILDING A TERRACE?
Larch boards as a transitional space between interior and exterior is now much more than just a fashion wave: it symbolizes an entire lifestyle. It is built of natural and timeless wood and becomes a place of well-being and hospitality. Even in the hottest hours of the day, the south-facing terrace allows you to walk barefoot in comfort. Year after year, it stands up to rain and snow and is easy to clean.
Whether the wood is oiled and meticulously maintained or aged by weathering with time, the options and styles are many, but the emotion remains the same … a serene, noble material that quietly changes and beautifies as time passes.

THE SUPERIORITY OF LARCH WOOD
Many balconies and terraces are not adapted to the leisure space and are hardly used! It is with this in mind that solid wood structures, which are easy to live with, offer all the advantages.
Larch is a very popular timber for patio construction. Larch wood is very durable and copes well with weather fluctuations. Larch has a high resin content, which significantly helps to provide greater resistance to the effects of external weather conditions.
Larch is a great alternative as a building material for a sustainable larch plank patio. It is a very durable and semi-hard wood in its natural properties. Larch contains natural preservatives such as resins and minerals. In flooring, the good properties of larch are emphasised by its hardness and density. Terraces made of larch do not need to be finished like other conifers, as the material can withstand UV and moisture stresses. Over the years, however, the wood will turn grey. Remember that during greying, the tone of the patio surface may become uneven. However, the overall appearance of larch is light and can be darkened if necessary.
Larch timber patio boards are more than easy to install, which is why we can offer you larch patio boards by selling the larch patio boards and backing timbers themselves.
Outdoor wooden structures require precise construction methods to withstand time and weathering, which is why we can manufacture and supply you with turnkey larch patio planks.

This wide range of uses shows how larch boards combine aesthetics with functionality and health benefits.
SURFACE TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR LARCH BOARDS?
There are several effective methods for finishing larch boards to improve their appearance and extend their life.
Oil-based products
Oil: It is recommended to use oil-based products, which is available in teak and clear shades. Oiling a larch plank patio requires regular maintenance, but it’s a simple process that involves cleaning the floor and applying a new coat of oil
Clear oil: For recoating, it is ideal to use a colourless oil that protects the wood without changing its natural colour
Varnishes
Colourless varnishes: Varnishes create a protective film on the surface of the wood and preserve its natural colour. When varnishing, it is important to prepare and sand the substrate thoroughly. Varnishing is done in several coats and after drying, the surface can be lightly sanded for a smoother finish.
Pickling
Coloured stains: Stains are used to colour the wood and bring out its texture. The stain is applied in the direction of the grain of the wood and multiple coats can be applied to achieve a darker shade.
Wax
Wax: Wax provides protection while preserving the natural appearance of the wood. It is suitable for interior applications where it is not exposed to extreme weather conditions.
Other finishes
Brushing: This method can be used to bring out the texture of the wood, giving larch boards a more interesting appearance
Exterior Finish: Larch boards have a natural weather resistance due to their resin content, which means that even without a finish they have a long life
Each of these methods has advantages and disadvantages depending on the intended use and aesthetic preferences.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PLANED AND UNPLANED LARCH BOARDS?
The difference between planed and unplaned larch boards lies primarily in their processing and properties that affect their use and appearance.
Planed larch boards
Processing: Planed boards are subjected to a planing process, which means that they are mechanically adjusted to the exact dimension and have a smooth surface. This process also includes edge beveling, which provides safer handling and a more aesthetic appearance
Features: planing makes these boards less prone to cracking and warping, which increases their stability. They are also ready for further finishing, such as varnishing or oiling, which improves their resistance to moisture and pests
Use: Planed boards are often used in interior applications such as furniture, flooring or tiling where aesthetic appeal and a smooth surface are important.
Unplaned larch boards
Treatment: Unplaned boards are not mechanically treated, which means they retain a raw look with a rougher surface. They may have sharp edges and various imperfections
Features: these boards may be cheaper and more readily available, but are more prone to warping and cracking. Their surface may require additional finishing before interior use
Use: Unplaned boards are often used for structural purposes such as fencing or basic building elements where aesthetics are not a consideration.
The main difference between planed and unplaned larch boards lies in their processing and applications. Planed boards offer better appearance and stability for interior use, while unplaned boards are suitable for structural purposes with lower demands on aesthetics.
HOW LONG DO LARCH BOARDS LAST WITHOUT MAINTENANCE?
Larch boards, especially those made of Siberian larch, are characterized by high durability and long service life. They can last between 30 and 50 years without maintenance, and in some cases up to 100 years depending on the conditions of use and the quality of workmanship
Key factors affecting durability:
Weather resistance: Larch wood is naturally resistant to moisture and rot, making it an ideal material for outdoor use
Quality of workmanship: proper design and execution of the façade is crucial for maximum durability. Poor workmanship can lead to durability problems
Maintenance: although larch boards require minimal maintenance, regular inspection and possible treatments can extend their life. For example, treatment is recommended every 10 to 25 years depending on exposure to weather conditions
Siberian larch is therefore a very durable material that can last for several decades without maintenance if properly installed and exposed to appropriate.
